Exercise Institute has a long history of servicing elite triathletes. We have worked alongside athletes who have won junior national events, professional 70.3 Ironman races, and finished in the top 50 in the world professional rankings.

At the heart of this process is an ardent desire to focus on creating an athlete-led system of development across the 3 disciplines of swimming, cycling, and running. We see all 3 disciplines as interactive in nature meaning loading present in one discipline can affect the outcome in another discipline. This integrated approach to development requires a wholistic understanding of the athlete within the triathlon context.

Personalised Coaching and Training

Across the 3 disciplines we work toward an applied process of implementing evidence-based practice from latest scientific findings and principles of progressive loading to ensure athletes remain injury free and progressing toward their respective goals. This requires programming that is adaptive and adjusted to suit the athletes acute training loads, such that sessions may need to be adjusted weekly even daily to suit what might work in their present training state best.

Given our strong basis in developing capable cyclists and given the fact that the greatest percentage of improvement in triathlon completion times comes from cycling improvement, we are well placed to improve each athlete utilising metabolic testing measures, aerodynamic testing and bike fitting, and sound training principles based on each person’s unique physiology and profile.

Alongside our strong cycling capabilities, we have access to industry leaders in technical swim training and optimising running environments to ensure each athlete can progress optimally and to their best potential.

Owing to our strong focus on applying sound scientific practices to each athletes’ unique needs means a unique approach to each athlete’s development. To this end, no two programs are the same and no two athletes are the same, hence we relish the challenge of finding what will best work for each individual using sound scientific application.

Why use the High performance Triathlon program as opposed to another coaching program?

Our high-performance triathlon program provides a more detailed and thorough analysis of athlete needs across all 3 disciplines to better procure sustainable development and performance. Taken together, this program looks at each modality of training and weaves a collaborative understanding of the athletes’ unique responses to exercise across the 3 domains of swimming, cycling, and running.

Our application of latest scientific concepts and practical experience and understanding means we have expertise level knowledge of athlete development across physiology, biomechanics, psychology, and evidence based coaching practice. These attributes have been procured through experience and through professional development meaning our coaching staff all have tertiary level understanding and formal training to ensure we can apply the best training concepts to each athlete, at the correct time. To this end, we do not only have practical experience of elite triathlon performance but are trained in this aspect formally and practice this day to day in our careers.
