VO2 Max Testing

The gold standard measurement of your personal Cycling/Running fitness capacity.

If you are currently training and want to know exactly how hard to go to maximise performance, a VO2 Max test is the most accurate way to pinpoint your true training intensity thresholds. No guessing from generic heart rate formulas or online calculators. You receive zones based on your own physiology.

Why it matters

A VO2 Max test measures a wide range of variables across different exercise intensities. This includes:

• Fat Max where you burn the highest percentage of fat as fuel
• First and second thresholds
• True VO2 Max
• Your unique training zones

These results allow us to accurately prescribe training intensity based on your current fitness state and physiology. Every athlete responds differently to training and this identifies the intensity that works for you specifically.

What you will learn

Once your data is analysed, you receive:

• Custom heart rate and power/pace training zones
• Your current fitness capacity
• Clear boundaries between easy, moderate and hard training
• A training roadmap that removes guesswork

VO2 Max testing and lactate testing are the only methods that accurately provide this level of precision.

Who it is for

• Athletes in structured training
• Cyclists, Runners and endurance athletes preparing for events
• Anyone wanting accurate training zones for performance goals

If you are healthy and clear the pre-screening, anyone can complete this test.

FAQ’s

What is VO2 max testing?

It is the gold standard measurement of an individual's fitness capacity by analysing the amount of oxygen consumed at increasing exercise intensities.

Why do a VO2 max test?

It shows how highly trained you are and determines the exact intensities where your training becomes moderate or high. It identifies the intensity where you burn the most fat as a fuel source. It allows for training prescription that follows scientific best practice and reflects your current physiology.

What is involved?

You complete a graded test that increases in intensity over 15 to 25 minutes. You wear a mask that measures oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange breath by breath. The data is analysed in real time to identify your specific metabolic responses to exercise.

This method is more reliable than lactate testing due to reduced measurement and instrument error.

What equipment do I need?

• Cycling/Running clothing and shoes
• Chest strap heart rate monitor
• Towel and water bottle
• Your own bike (cycling test only) if preferred
• We have a scientific-grade treadmill and standalone bicycles available

Can anyone do a VO2 max test?

Yes. As long as you are healthy and complete the pre-screening form you can do the test.
