The high-performance cycling program at the Exercise Institute is built on a solid foundation of both practical and theoretical expertise. Our team brings decades of experience working with elite cyclists. We offer a range of services, from personalised coaching and training for individual athletes to comprehensive, ground-up development programs delivered through our support of the Cycling Development Foundation (CDF) Racing Teams.

Personalised Coaching and Training

Through our personalised coaching and training programs we can work privately with elite athletes toward their own unique goals. We adopt a strengths-based approach to performance development, whilst being mindful of areas requiring self-improvement. We do this through objective and subjective forms of data collection and feedback to ensure self-improvement is monitored and encouraged. Through this system of development, the athlete can expect more time in applying best practice to your coaching and training to better develop you toward your goals and aspirations.

We will borrow from applied Sport science, Sport Psychology, and Elite Coaching principles through the program, whilst accessing as required metabolic testing (Oxygen Consumption, Power profiling, Lactate measures), 3-dimensional bike fitting, aerodynamic testing to ascertain the cyclist's coefficient of drag, strength and conditioning tailored to your own functional needs, fatigue monitoring and more to ensure optimal adaptation is achieved.

How is our Personalised Coaching and Training different to an off the shelf program?

An off the shelf program will focus on what is best for an athlete, on average, rather than what is best for the individual at a specific moment in time. To be across this difference requires monitoring and understanding of the unique development of each individual. Indeed, this is where the real potency in coaching can lie, in tailoring the environment to the individual based on their response to training (rather than the average response). This can only occur through feedback, analysis, and refinement of he program. Owing to the high work rates of athletes it is important the environment is completely tailored to the individual. We have extensive practical and theoretical experience to be able to best apply concepts around human development on a case-by-case basis.

Why use our Personalised Coaching and Training as opposed to another coaching program?

Our system starts with the development of shared understanding around your goals, aspirations, and motivations for training. To this end, we must get to know each individual and ensure the environment created works for you. This requires a degree of rapport building and shared understanding between both parties that borrows heavily from Sport Psychology concepts. This facilitates a motivational climate conducive to long term effort and resilience.

From here we then focus on drawing down on aspects of sport science to ensure the actual training completed will advance your development as it pertains to your above needs. This takes a good level of current sport science application and knowledge to best apply concepts to the individual. In turn, this requires feedback and monitoring to understand each individual's unique response to training. This optimises the training environment based on individual responses.
