FAQ’s

What is Pace Testing?

Pace testing is a means of understanding an individual’s ability to endure increasing exercise intensity. The test measures how much work can be done by the aerobic energy system (VO2 max Pace test). This involves a graded exercise test of increasing pace (speed) over time until voluntary exhaustion.

Why do a Pace Test?

A power test is a low cost means of understanding what your fitness output is. The test results can be used for exercise prescription and prediction. Prescription meaning, we can prescribe an exercise intensity to the individual knowing that we will achieve a VO2 max response, which is important when prescribing high intensity sessions accurately. Prediction meaning, the results of the test will predict what fitness capability the individual has from 3 minutes to 3hrs, to within 95% accuracy.

What is involved?

The VO2 max pace test can take around 30mins to complete, depending on your fitness level. It is a graded exercise test that see’s the individual run at a set pace for 2-5min stages at a time, with pace increasing at the end of each stage, until exhaustion.

What equipment do I need?

The VO2 max pace test is completed on our treadmill. You will need a chest strap HR monitor, running clothing/shoes, towel and water bottle.

Can anyone do a Pace Test?

Providing you are healthy and answer the exercise pre-screening tool anyone can do the test.
