A Psychology in Sport consultation (PIS) is a private appointment used to discuss aspects central to human health, wellbeing, and performance within a sporting context. The session is used to explore the personal exercise and sporting experience of individuals in order to best advance your own development. The consultation uses theories such as Psychodynamic theory, Acceptance Commitment theory, Self-determination theory. and others to best understand your experience.

The consultation occurs privately and abides by strict confidentiality rules in order to explore your own meaning of exercise habits. The process can be used to improve health and wellbeing central to the exercise/sporting experience. It uses psychology concepts to better understand your own needs within a sport/exercise context. Who can attend a Psychology in Sport consultation?

Anyone can attend a PIS consultation. Minors will need approval from a parent or legal guardian. The process is completely tailored to your own needs and as such is a very personalised. PIS is about improving a sense of enjoyment, motivation for, and improved performance around exercise and exercise related pursuits.

What is covered in a session?

Initially the session is about understanding your needs in relation to exercise. So, we need to hear from you first and foremost in order to understand your unique situation and circumstances. From here we cant hen discuss strategies to assist you in your exercise journey.

1 hour is the usual session length.

How many sessions should be taken?

Generally speaking, a sessional commitment could be between 1 to 3 sessions, depending on your own needs and circumstances.

Each session has an actionable item to take home with you, meaning there will be an opportunity to apply something from the session to your own unique circumstances.
