Stef at the National Mountain Bike National Series

BY IN Women's Cycling News On March 22, 2016

Off the back of the Gran Fondo World Series in Perth, Stefanie Van Amerongen travelled to Victoria to compete in the national mountain bike series. Her skills and fitness were to be tested on a difficult course in an exceptional field. But returning to the discipline she loves, Stef delivered!

After 2 days practising the MTB Nationals Course in dry and dusty conditions in Bright I was happy to have successfully ridden most of the course.

The morning of the race that would all change with 12 hours of continuous rain that changed the conditions completely. Never mind, everyone was in the same boat and there was nothing we could change so we just made the best of it.

After walking a few sections on the first lap due to muddy and slippery conditions I was happy to be able to ride them on the second as the track started drying out. I was making up some ground on the uphill sections, and was happy to finish 5th in my grade.

I then backed up on Sunday with 6th in B Women in the XCC (cross country crit).

Thanks to (husband) Kim for some great photos!

It was great to support the other West Australians Jon Gregg, Tony Tucknott and Kim Van Amerongen who took out national titles in their age categories.
